The holidays are upon on and as we are enjoying this time with our family, friends and those we have chosen to spend this time with, we could keep these safe tips in mind.
Indeed, during the holidays, disasters, such as fires, injuries etc. is likely to increase and with keeping the following thoughts in mind, perhaps we may be able to reduce this.
Do Not Overload
Although you may be thinking that you already know this, many of us still ignore this important advice. Yes, as you are decorating your home and surroundings, it is best to make sure that you do not overload the electric sockets.
Although there may be room for six plugs, this does not mean that it is best to use all six of them with high- powered items.
For example, instead of plugging the television, DVD, and Play Station, into the same socket, it would be best to put the television and Play Station into separate ones.
Additionally, if you will be using a blender and a stand mixer, it would also be best to use separate ones for them. Indeed, the aim is to prevent an electric overload.
Children In The Kitchen
When you are working in the kitchen and if there is a young child, or children in the home, it is best to keep them occupied elsewhere.
However, at times, this could be a bit challenging and perhaps even more so when you are the only adult in the home. However, it is best to keep them out of it because a pot could fall off the stove unexpectedly, or, they could touch the hot oven and many other serious harm could occur.
Smoke Alarm
Do not forget to change the battery on your smoke alarm. If you had changed it recently, do not forget to check to make sure that it is working correctly.
Injuries
As you would have known, injuries does not only occur in the kitchen, it could occur in any part of the home. One of the most likely places of this taking place is with the Christmas tree. Christmas trees are known for falling over and with young children being attracted to them, they may pull on them.
Therefore, securing them and placing them in a location that will keep it from falling on them and you, is always advisable.
Choking
Keep an eye out for small item around the house, but especially on the floor. A few pieces of decorations may have been left behind, or fallen from its location or something else. If a child find them, he/she may place them in their mouths.
Additionally, reminding children and adults to eat slowly, carefully and no talking with their mouths full, during this time, is worthwhile.
